VOLUNTEER AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

HELP/ASSISTANCE NEEDED:

Tacoma Community House is working with a young Muslim woman from Ethiopia who entered the United States by “winning” the US Immigration Lottery.  Because the lottery was one person per application, her family agreed that she would come but she had to leave her husband and young son behind.  After arriving here, she realized that she was pregnant when she left Ethiopia.  Her daughter is now 18 months old.  The client has been attending ESL classes and is now ready to start Child Development Associate training at TCC so she can become credentialed and start to work.  Tacoma Community House has been helping her learn to drive.  She will get her driver’s license soon; however she doesn’t have a car.  She needs an inexpensive, but safe car for herself and her daughter.  She has about $500 to spend.  By continuing to save a little each month, she may be able to pay a little more in a few months.  The worry is that she will also need money to pay for car insurance.  If anyone has a lead on a small, economical car that she can purchase for $500, please contact Candis Carbone at (253) 383-3951.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT ASSOCIATED MINISTRIES:

Spring Celebration Auction & Dinner:  Have you got time on your hands and a need to give to a worthy cause?  If so, Associated Ministries could use your help on Saturday, April 26, with our annual event.  We need individuals who can be table closers, runners, spotters, set-up and clean-up, etc.  If you’re available, we can find a place for you.  Please contact Robin Mason at (253) 383-3056, ext. 119 or email robinm@associatedministries.org with your availability and contact information.

Project Interdependence: Join a team with friends, family, colleagues or congregants to form a volunteer mentor team for a family in transition.  Teams provide hope and encouragement, connect their family to community resources as needed and help their family achieve the goals set with Project Interdependence (PIP) staff.  Teams alternate and maintain weekly contact with the family in person or by phone during the course of six months to a year commitment.  To learn more about this volunteer opportunity, contact Valorie Crout, the Program Director at (253) 383-3056 ext. 108 or email valoriec@associatedministries.org.

Certified Electrician needed to donate approximately one day of their time to help our building. We need to have two lights (interior) and one panic button installed. It is estimated that it may take approximately the better part of one day including a site inspection. Associated Ministries will provide all of the materials needed for the work and any meals desired.  For more information please contact Brad Dell at (253) 383-3056, ext. 129 or email brad@associatedministries.org.

Disaster Response Program: Volunteers needed to train and help assist survivors of disaster.  Volunteers will receive special training and form a Care Team who will then help a family or individual find resources and transition back to a more normal life.  For more information please contact Brad Dell at (253) 383-3056, ext. 129 or brad@associatedministries.org.

Office Receptionist needed to answer phones, greet clients and visitors, assist with mailings and other duties as assigned.  For more information, please contact Robin Mason at (253) 383-3056, ext. 119 or email robinm@associatedministries.org.
