Comm Serv Resource Guide

How can you help?

• Join with friends, family, colleagues or congregants to form a volunteer mentor team for a family in transition. All is takes is the willingness to be a friend with a caring heart and open mind. Teams provide hope and encouragement, connect their family to community resources as needed, help their family develop goals and assist in achieving them. Teams maintain weekly contact with the family either in person or by phone during the course of a year-long commitment.  PIP provides ongoing training and support. For information email Valorie or call (253) 383-3056, ext. 108.

• Make a financial contribution to support the holiday toy giveaway or the summer school supplies giveaway.  Please note in the memo line of your check the purpose of your donation. Checks can be made payable to Associated Ministries and mailed to 1224 South I Street, Tacoma, WA 98405, Attn: Project Interdependence.

ADOPT A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS: Project Interdependence is seeking donors for our Adopt a Family program which provides gifts to low-income children. This is a great opportunity to gather friends together to shop, wrap, deliver toys and make a child’s Christmas extra special. If you are interested in participating in this program, please complete and return the donor application form. Please contact Bria Zimmerman for more information at 253-383-3056 ext. 109 or briaz@associatedministries.org.

Help a Family Move From Welfare to Work

Associated Ministries’ Project Interdependence program moves families from dependency on public assistance to self-sufficiency through employment. The program serves low-income persons, single women with children who face a variety of barriers to employment; individuals with permanent disability; the working poor and the recently unemployed. Services include case management, mentorship, referrals, protective payee services, emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing, mail service for the homeless, energy assistance, and emergency funds for unique situations.

The program seeks volunteer mentor teams of 2-5 people to offer friendship, encouragement and support to help families in need achieve their goals. Volunteer teams alternate weekly contact with the family to which they are matched, either by phone or in person. The time commitment averages an hour every other week per person. Volunteers receive initial training and ongoing monthly support.

Form a mentor team from your church members, with friends, family or neighbors, or help coordinate the recruitment of a team. Invite Associated Ministries staff to speak at your church or organization, circulate information in your newsletter, make an announcement during service, post a flyer on the bulletin board, and speak to your friends, family members, co-workers, church members, and neighbors about becoming a mentor for a family in need. Volunteers are welcome to apply as individuals or in teams.

For further information, please contact Valorie Crout, program director at 253-383-3056 ext. 108 or valoriec@associatedministries.org
