The Compeer Program: Celebrating Friendship

Your friendship gives you the power to change the life of someone with emotional problems or a mental illness. All it takes is sharing a few hours a month doing the things you like to do already: sports, movies, a walk in the park.

Compeer is part of a national program which trains volunteers to be a "community friend" to someone living with a mental illness or in emotional distress. Volunteers range in age from 18 to 90, from various walks of life, races, religions, and from urban and suburban neighborhoods.

Compeer volunteers may serve in a wide variety of supporting roles, which include:

* Individual friend to friend matches
* Friendship groups
* Compeer telephone calling
* Skill builders groups

Compeer is a great way to use the power of your friendship to make a difference in someone's life.
