Mental Health Chaplaincy

Reaching Out / Offering Support / Coming Together to Help

Who We Are

The Mental Health Chaplaincy is a network of people in Pierce County and beyond interested in ministry with those living with mental illnesses. We are mental health consumers, family members, professionals, concerned citizens, and members of civic groups and religious communities -- all working together to see that people living with mental illness are better served. We help break down the barriers of ignorance and stigma surrounding mental illness and to help create more compassionate, humane and just communities.

Our Mission

The mission of the Mental Health Chaplaincy is to provide spiritual care and community support to individuals and families who live with the challenges of mental illness.

Our Services

Pastoral Care

The Chaplaincy is active in a variety of settings, providing pastoral care to individuals and families who live with serious mental illness. We work closely with Greater Lakes Mental Health, Comprehensive Mental Health and area hospitals to help meet spiritual needs and to build natural community support.

Education

Mental health education is an integral part of the Chaplaincy's mission, working to dispel stigma, prejudice, and ignorance about mental illness. We are available to give presentations in local congregations and other community groups.

Advocacy

The Mental Health Chaplaincy joins with other individuals and organizations in advocating for the rights and welfare of mental health consumers.
